Custom Electric Carb Heat

 

I designed my own electric carb heat system, not happy with any of the existing commercial options, or the stock forced-air version.

The system uses two high watt-density cartridge heaters (used commonly to heat injection molds) inserted into custom 10-32 cap screws, which are then screwed directly into free carb boss.

​

This transfers heat directly and efficiently right to the throttle butterfly and does so at a much lower power draw than other systems.  Within a few seconds of turning the system on, the carb body is warm to the touch.

There are two elements per carb, and they can be turned on individually (lo-hi) from the cockpit.
